Finishing Well

I just had the privilege of attending my uncle's funeral. After many years of pain, the Lord took him home just shy of 90 years old. His life was lived for Jesus until the end. In fact, just before taking his last down turn, he told his pastor, "I don't want you talking about me at the funeral. I want you to share the gospel with those who are lost." In other words, talk about Jesus, not me. He was a soul-winner himself. Just 6 weeks before his death, he had led someone to the Lord. In his last days, my aunt said he kept raising his hands toward heaven. He would see things, like a lush garden with beautiful flowers...

The pastor was true to my uncle's words and to God's word. At every opportunity--the viewing, the funeral, the grave side--he preached the gospel. One line stood out and blessed my soul: "If you are here today and are lost, you are Mr. Fowler's special guest. He wants you to know Jesus so you can join him in heaven one day." I'm praying that God's words spoken that day will not return void.

I want to finish well like my uncle. I want to grow in my burden for those who don't know Him, seeing those without Jesus as my "special guests". Life is short; may I talk about Jesus and not about me...
